I heard from an old neighbor who visited the only state Reagan didn't win that that he had seen many Trump signs and only one Biden sign, and that it had never been that way in past R vs D elections( He lived there his whole life until 10 years ago, and is retired now). Could barely believe it.
But, the Iron Range (when it was deep blue) held back reporting their precincts until early the next morning, after it became clear how many votes were needed to put Mondale over the top. The "winning" margin was only about 3,200 votes. Reagan was entitled to an automatic recount, but chose to not embarrass Mondale further.
Inner city Detroit metropolitan precincts do the same thing. They underestimated the number of votes needed in 2016, or perhaps they ran out of registered voters that didn't vote.
Personally, I believe that voting for no-show voters is a common form of fraud. It's just hard to catch. I would like to see an investigation of any precinct that reports their more than 60 minutes after the polls close, perhaps by sending a registered letter to every voter that allegedly voted to determine if they actually voted.
