That would be infringing on their freedom to live their lives, so no. The "get away with it" is long gone from consideration, whether that be because of logic or evolution or instinct or common sense or conscience or whatever - the code is "my freedom relies on my preservation of the freedom of others." Or, better, my code is best because it is a code that, if followed by everyone, creates only happiness for everyone. That's not to say there is no unhappiness, but that the code is not responsible for that unhappiness.
If I sat down and thought long and hard about it, I could add "unless I can get away with it" back in. But then we're talking about me making a conscious effort to work against my innate-at-this-point behavior.
It could be a self preservation mechanism, either logical or "instinctual". The creation of unnecessary enemies is not a desirable outcome

As I said, illogical. That is your conscience, given to you by God, telling you to seek what is right. Don't ignore it.
