People that grow up in colder climates trend more conservative because half the year you need to preserve resources and stay inside.
In places where it's warm all year there is more of an abundance of food and you have more daylight hours to work. The environment is less harsh and as a result, the people are too. They're more willing to share, hence "southern hospitality".
