There are different kinds of immigration, all throughout US History. It would help to understand the difference between about 4 different key types when say talking about Mexico and Central American immigrants:
Lawful immigrants. Follow the laws, do the whole jumping through loops and hurdles, want to be a US Citizen, loves America/Americans/American Values. These split by various %s for Rep vs Dem but over time it's about 50/50 to start, but like all populations (including native born, many generational Mayflower Americans) tends to get more Republican as individuals age.
Permanent Residency - This group, for most of the time was the pre-cursor to the Lawful immigrant catagory; but under some last 20 years of bad laws, court rulings, etc; means more anti-Americans are in the group than should be.
Temporary Workers - Like all Visa holders, this has been much abused, particularly during Democratic Presidencies. These workers are disproportionatly marxists or other anti-Americans, but still have some solid American Loving people in this group. Some are indifferent, they're just here to do a job; and send money home.
Illegals - These can be workers or family members, or all kinds of back story. Obviously it takes someone willing to hire them, rent them a place to stay or lend them a couch/bedroom, etc.
Refugees - This catagory lawfully shouldn't exist as per the US Constitution; but this is more of a recent thing. In the past, people would just be in the above catagories, including Temp/Perm residency.
So where what you describe is causing problems; is the Dems/Marxists Commie Brotherhood around the globe, puts in key policies, laws, actions; in which to use people (marxists or not) to their political or economic advantage over their non-marxist locals (aka us). This was true in NYC 120 years ago, it's true today in the US and in Europe and Australia, New Zealand, etc. And marxists import other evil ideologies/peoples too whom marxist use as their allies whom also want to tear down Western Civilization/behead churchgoers.
So if you realize the marxists and their mass importations are what you describe in the "free gibs"; it's NOT the majority of people we're talking about with Manifest Destiny. Further, please consider that there's a whole lot of room for improvements in the "free gibs" gov programs; so the realitiy is they wouldn't exist in their badly run and corrupt ways which Dems run them in most major cities today.
