Like the gang/mafia initiation thing that has people kill for the organisation to prove themselves, there's a lot of speculation that Joe killed or had them killed to get 'in'. And hunter may have killed his brother for the same reason.. before going after his wife and daughter.
I dont think Hallmark do this brand of fucked-up. At least not yet, maybe it will be deemed progressive soon enough.
