If I’m being honest, I’m not a huge fan of the First Step Act. I understand why some people want criminal justice reform, and I do think it comes from a genuine desire to help people.
The problem is that, while there are ostensibly good people that get themselves into trouble, the vast majority of people in prison are criminals by vocation and should be there as long as we can keep them locked up. The world would be a better place if George Floyd had gotten 20-life for pointing a gun at a pregnant woman’s stomach during a home invasion.
