Even the environment is a bullshit anti Trump leftist talking point. Nobody in 15+ yrs had annually cleaned up more superfund sites than GEOTUS.

From Politico (Bullshitico) of all sources: “Under Trump, officials deleted seven sites from the Superfund list in 2017, 22 in 2018 and 27 in 2019. Obama’s first year in office saw 20 completed clean ups and in 2014 the number dived to a piddly eight. By the tail-end of the Obama years there were still 1,300-plus sites on the Superfund National Priorities List—the worst of the worst—and some 53 million people living within three miles of one”

Career politicians should go extinct. I want to see an America governed by common folk for a couple terms and then they return to their private sector job after SERVING the public.

I'm sure there's several great carpenters, a plumber that started his own business, a truck driver that became an owner operator, a doctor, and many other occupations where they could find way to help out the American people through legislation and ideas.

36
sanstheskeleton 36 points ago +36 / -0

I'm a sucker for a good everyman /working class hero story. That's part of the reason I like trump.

He reminds me of stone cold steve austin giving the establishment hell back in the late 90s. Everyone in power is trying to stop this madlad and he makes them look stupid

20
purple_nitrile 20 points ago +21 / -1

I'm a sucker for the Byronic Hero trope. I feel President Trump has a lot of flaws, but he is extremely good at his job and loves his country. And since he is extremely talented, he can get away with being an asshole.

Usually all the characters in movies and books that I root for are like this: Dr. Greg House, Raistlin Majere, Harry Dresden, etc.

Edit to summarize:

Congress: 12 year limit. If you happen to be in HoR and you want to move to Senate, once you pass year 6, you're ineligible.

Presidency: I'd love to increase it to 12 years with Trump, but even still, let's say 8 years.

Therefore, max someone can be in federal gov't is 12+8 years = 20 years.

When we have congressmen being there for 30+ years it's insane.

9
Nomoralcompass89 9 points ago +9 / -0

Thats why were advocating for term limits on Politicians and no longer want career Politicians. Judges i feel are generally more centered.

5
Loc12 5 points ago +6 / -1

I'd maybe go for a single 7 year Presidential term. So much time is wasted campaigning after 2.5 years into the first term

7
BadManOrange 7 points ago +8 / -1

True, but what if the president really sucks in the first term? 8 years makes more sense than 7. Either way, would be interesting to just say a single 8 year term and leave out the re-election nonsense. Although, it certainly gives the president even more power when they know they never have to worry about re-election. We already have this to an extent with the two term rule. Many presidents get more bold with their agenda in their second term since they don't have to worry about re-election.

7
Loc12 7 points ago +8 / -1

Yeah that's the risk, maybe one 6 year term so they don’t stay as long? No easy answer really, both ways have pros and cons

5
deleted 5 points ago +5 / -0
3
MagicRat3 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think the framers in theory intended for recurring 4 year terms. Being very new to democracy they didn't realize how much time people would take campaigning--back in the day it was considered rude to campaign for yourself. Also, they assumed people would readily retire from congress after a few years / people also didn't live as long.

3
Pepe_longcockings 3 points ago +3 / -0

I like a single 6-year term idea

4
de9ebkmd7 4 points ago +5 / -1

I would also like to see mandatory dorms for congress. They are often complaining about how they have to maintain two homes, blah blah blah let's vote ourselves another raise. We should take that away from them. You live in the dorms, no exceptions.

This is not punishment but opportunity for the non-wealthy people to become a congressman for 2 years. You don't have to be wealthy enough to have two homes.

Now these dorms are not shitty. They are nice dorms worthy of the office. They have a gym, a cafeteria, coffee bar, lots of conference rooms, security, temporary overnight rooms for staff, shuttle service, etc.

Most Americans will think these dorms are very nice. The whole point is it enables the ordinary American with a day job to run for congress because a lot more of us will need to if we get term limits in place!

6
localhost 6 points ago +6 / -0

That sounds like a security nightmare. You take out the building, you take out a ton of the governing body all at once.

2
de9ebkmd7 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah that is a real concern. All of DC is already a target and my idea allows for multiple buildings.

3
Elvathelion 3 points ago +3 / -0

I recall in L. Neil Smith's novel, The Probability Broach from years ago - members of Congress of the North American Confederacy had to meet in a a very remote and uncomfortable hole in the wall town in the middle of nowhere which had intentionally been named as the Capitol, seat of government. A town purposefully lacking all refinements or comforts and luxuries.

By the start of the series in 1986, the NAC spans the entire continent of North America as well as Greenland, though Panama appears to still be part of Colombia. The capital city of the NAC is Gallatinopolis, which is located in the geographical center of the North American continent while neither Denver or Washington, D.C. exist and New York City was destroyed and abandoned after a war between private security companies in 1878 (102 A.L.).[3] The NAC also has independent settlements on the Moon which were established in 1949 (173 A.L.), Mars and on major asteroids. The government is an utterly powerless entity, with the presidency a largely honorary role preserved only as a coordinator of actions in national emergencies. Along the way, the libertarian philosophies of the Gallatin Party in the NAC remain in conflict with the remnants of Federalist Party (sometimes referred to as Hamiltonians, after the man considered the real villain in the old United States, Alexander Hamilton) which continues to promote strong central government.

2
de9ebkmd7 2 points ago +2 / -0

Interesting. I don't read a lot of fiction but I'm going to add that book to my list.

1
Elvathelion 1 point ago +1 / -0

Smith was writing alternative timeline stories before they were cool, I really enjoyed the read back in the early 90's when I read it. There's a graphical novel adapted from it as well:

The preview of the graphical novel version is on the web from publisher:

https://www.bigheadpress.com/tpbtgn

Edit: I just ordered myself a copy of the graphical novel from Amazon.

I can imagine how much of a shit show congress would be when in session when you have everyone living in the same building like college students. Government provided housing does make sense, just the idea of a massive apartment building for congress with like 535 rooms would be interesting to say the least.

1
Mitschu 1 point ago +1 / -0

Fund it with a Reality TV show set in the same building.

Next time, on 'Dorm of Representatives': AoC wants the other congresspeople to clear out so that she can host a huge party in the jacuzzi, but Pelosi refuses to go a day without access to the house bar, and Ohmar finds herself wrapped up in a terrorist plot!

Will these 535 misfits be able to set aside their differences and work for the American people when skinny dipping, drunken debauchery, and explosive relationships are around every corner?

Find out in two weeks, after we come back from yet another vacation!

1
MagicRat3 1 point ago +1 / -0

An ordinary American with a day job could afford 2 houses on a congress salary unless they're from a liberal state like California, New York, or Massachusetts. Plus, just stay in an apartment for part of the year when congress is in session and go back home to your home state when it's not.

1
Mr_Noh 1 point ago +1 / -0

Unfortunately most of the military bases that were shut down since BRAC in the 90s have been sold off or otherwise disposed of already, or else I'd suggest them for official Congressional housing. Those areas were already secure, and many were configured to handle classified materials IIRC.

I have had thoughts about running. I would love to have the DNC help me piece together what i did in my 20s.

Kidding aside, I would run, but i would have to open a campaign based 50/50 on my ideas and what things could be used to smear me.

"Hello fellow Americans my name is [redacted] and i am running for Governor of Ohio. I have some great ideas to level the playing field for Ohioians. I want to remove concealed carry and establish that in Ohio, you can constitutionally carry a concealed weapon. I want to remove the E-check mandate for the last 7 counties in Ohio that force it. I want to remove the obligation to pay licensing fees for your vehicle if you have served the country. I also have other ideas, but before i tell you them, let me tell you exactly what my Democrat opponent will try to smear me with in October.

The career politicians can then submit their proposals to the stamping robot -- I would expect that the robot would provide the correct decision 99% of the time.

As long as they can pass an IQ test. I don't care where they were educated or if they are a tradesman or a scientist; I don't want anyone with an IQ under 130 making decisions that affect millions of people. We've had the ability to estimate intelligence with incredible accuracy for about 100 years, we should be using that knowledge to qualify leaders so that we don't have law makers who need to ask if Guam will capsize due to military maneuvers.

There's no such thing as a RINO or DINO. All politicians are essentially the same. They want all talk and no action and to stick with the status quo of lining their pockets without any work. We need the Trump to start the American party and get away from all these politics and get back to helping people.

I agree with this. Prop.1 weed was put on the ballot specifically to help get her and other key democrats in place, and get the other two proposals (constitutional amendments for same day, straight ticket voting and redistricting) passed. yes-yes-yes is easy to remember, no?

17

Perfect storm - lame duck Snyder handling of Flint water crisis - may not have caused it but didn't handle it well at all. (grade D-) AG Schutte dragged his feet on the marijuana initiative; these actions pissed off the people that voted it in. (grade D-) This combo flipped it and lead to Gretchen Whitmer winning. That being said, it will be a generation before people make that mistake again. RED Wave coming!

Has the water in flint been fixed? Haven’t heard much about that

-1
TheLionParty -1 points ago +2 / -3

It's been fixed for years. But people always lay blame on the wrong people. This wasn't Snyder or the emergency manager. The city council voted to make the switch to a new water source, no one else made them. But when the switch was made, that new water source wasn't chemically treated correctly, so it leached lead from the pipes, which the old water didn't because it was treated correctly.

Wasn't Snyder or manager.

3
_Sully_ 3 points ago +3 / -0

Detroit water was less aggressive which didn’t remove the calcium carbonate coating on the lead pipes. Lead pipes need the water to contribute calcium carbonate to seal against lead. The river water had a high pH and eroded the calcium carbonate coating then began leaching lead from the old pipes. Poor implementation. It should’ve been anticipated and I bet when water quality engineers pointed this out it was ignored.

1
PinochetIsMyHero 1 point ago +1 / -0

OTOH, who the fuck uses lead pipes any more?

I've seen exactly one house with them in my life, and that one should have been replaced 40 years ago. AFAIK nobody has installed those since the 1920s when that house was built. The only thing they're good for is a source of lead for bullet casting.

1
_Sully_ 1 point ago +1 / -0

These pipes were that old. Did you know that about 4 years ago while digging the city of New York revealed old water pipes that were hollowed out logs?

Edit: oops it was 2005. https://aqueduct.org/article/historic-wooden-water-pipes-unearthed

2

-2
EggOfDelusion -2 points ago +1 / -3

I hope no one here supports "right to be fired for no reason". The entire reasoning for it was that companies would be more likely to hire you because they could fire you easily. Except that's not how it works for corporations, who want documentation anyway so you can't sue for discrimination.

Right to work is a cuckservative corporate bootlicking position.

4
Bullet3250 4 points ago +4 / -0

'Right to Work' does not end UNIONS...

Unions are not - illegal and can form at companies as much as they want... and those UNIONS can still negotiate for contracts with Management.

The big issue with Right to Work is that the WORKER CAN CHOOSE TO JOIN THE UNION OR NOT!

.. the UNION can not fire me for not joining...

Deciding to work or not should not be UNION decision.

And the 'UNION DUES' that 100% of all Union Workers were paying - led to massive fraud by UNION Management who abused the funds since forever...

2
EggOfDelusion 2 points ago +2 / -0

That is important and I would agree with it. Unions just funnel the money to Democrats anyway. Even though in theory unions are great and I support them for private companies.

When I was on the air, I mentioned that I believe that Governor Snyder cut a pre-emptive plea deal on his pending Flint water trial, making a deal with the Democrats prior to the trial. Endorsing Joe Biden publicly was a condition of the plea deal I believe that had taken place. I wouldn't put it past Governor Snyder nor the Democrats at this point.

People need to know the Flint problem was caused by Government to reach a clean water purity by standard using chlorine to purify the water system, what they didn't take into account is chlorine even in minor amounts will eat metal IE the pipes and the lead that seals the joints, it was fine for many years cause they used to use carbine filtration to clean the water, then the big chemical companies said it's cheaper and cleaner water by using chlorine, with no concept of what it would do to the pipes, they kept adding more chlorine to purify the water and it got worse, cause the pipes deteriorated quicker and got worse. The workers did what they were told to do. They need to stop using chlorine but that is the only way the chemical companies can dispose of it. I have sent this to the EPA with no response
