Career politicians should go extinct. I want to see an America governed by common folk for a couple terms and then they return to their private sector job after SERVING the public.
I'm sure there's several great carpenters, a plumber that started his own business, a truck driver that became an owner operator, a doctor, and many other occupations where they could find way to help out the American people through legislation and ideas.
I would also like to see mandatory dorms for congress. They are often complaining about how they have to maintain two homes, blah blah blah let's vote ourselves another raise. We should take that away from them. You live in the dorms, no exceptions.
This is not punishment but opportunity for the non-wealthy people to become a congressman for 2 years. You don't have to be wealthy enough to have two homes.
Now these dorms are not shitty. They are nice dorms worthy of the office. They have a gym, a cafeteria, coffee bar, lots of conference rooms, security, temporary overnight rooms for staff, shuttle service, etc.
Most Americans will think these dorms are very nice. The whole point is it enables the ordinary American with a day job to run for congress because a lot more of us will need to if we get term limits in place!
An ordinary American with a day job could afford 2 houses on a congress salary unless they're from a liberal state like California, New York, or Massachusetts. Plus, just stay in an apartment for part of the year when congress is in session and go back home to your home state when it's not.

Edit to summarize:
Congress: 12 year limit. If you happen to be in HoR and you want to move to Senate, once you pass year 6, you're ineligible.
Presidency: I'd love to increase it to 12 years with Trump, but even still, let's say 8 years.
Therefore, max someone can be in federal gov't is 12+8 years = 20 years.
When we have congressmen being there for 30+ years it's insane.
