I believe this election will demonstrate the abject failure of identity politics. The Democrats used to have several reliable voting blocs, but as they went further and further toward the lunatic fringe to try to cobble together enough micro blocs to beat Trump, they drove the original blocs to Trump. This will stand in history as a massive repudiation of a horribly ill-conceived political tactic.
There was one political strategist who used to be an advisor for Bill Clinton. He said in both UK and US politics there's a trend: as time goes on the left keeps moving further left while right stays the same. Eventually the left becomes so radical that they completely alienate the middle and they suffer crushing electoral defeats, forcing them to go back to the middle if they want to win again.
We say it recently in the UK where the Conservative Party had their biggest wins since the 1930s. I think we'll see it here in the US with a red wave.
