You could argue “infiltration” and “subversion”, and that is 100% what has happened over the last.... I want to say few decades, but probably since WW2. So technically you could say the government has not been overthrown.
However, in keeping with the spirit of your comment, I don’t believe it’s possible swap our traditionally constitutional republic for a fraudulent pseudo-communist government without overthrowing it.
