I think they really believe it. Because the alternative - that normal Americans support Trump in huge numbers - causes them immense cognitive dissonance and mental distress. So they keep on insisting it’s bots.

The idea of Russian bots is worse,they are going mental and see Russians everywhere and it's most likely often 4chan with a VPN on.
