I used to listen to him too, and I thought he was smart until Jordan Peterson came along and wrecked his shit.

Yup, JP made Harris look really closed minded, and condescending.

So how is he different from Elizabeth Warren or Barack Obama?

I heard of Sam Harris but never listened to him. Atheists don't impress me.

I must've missed this, definitely got something to check out tomorrow!

Not just Peterson. Even Bret Weinstein has a far more mature view on religion - his talk with Dawkins is worth a watch. The only thing Sam deserves praise for is that heโ€™s consistent in his criticisms - unlike most Reddit types, he criticises Islam appropriately harshly, from what Iโ€™ve seen.

true he does call out islam - but really is that all that hard to do? just by looking closely at it you can see how effed up it is

Being a liberal and having the courage to point it out is something of a rarity, and he definitely deserves at least some respect for not being afraid to be honest about it.

Even before JP became popular, William Lane Craig routinely picked apart his ideas in debate and it kinda became obvious he couldn't hold his own when not talking to unsophisticated opponents

This guy would rather see a three piece suit wearing politician speak eloquently while selling out U.S.A interests and prosperity, than someone who speaks less eloquently but serves the interests of the American people(trade, tariffs, lack of M.E conflict). TDS wrecked this guy fiercely but the same can be said of Dan Carlin to a degree, i used to like his podcast too.

They're all similar, they want the veneer of respectability and don't care whats behind it, but as many of us on this beautiful site see, these lifetime politicians are 'painted rust'.

Holy fucking shit this.

I've taken to explaining to people about "the see-saw"

On one side, you have their desire to have a candidate that makes them feel good rather than Trump who, lets face it, can be a bit of an arse. On the other side you have their desire to stop forcing Middle Eastern kids to watch their parents get blown up by bombs, or those parents watching their kids bleed to death from multiple bullet holes.

Then just explain that they have to weigh up the desires themselves and decide. It's actually remarkably effective

I don't remember who said it, but I know I read it here: it's not a beauty pageant; it's platform, policy, and performance.

I loved that way of putting it. I don't want pretty, but vapid and shallow, candidates paraded before me to display their likability and some stupid talent. I want results. I want my interests paid attention to.

Trump is a giant fucking asshole.

But he is OUR ASSHOLE

I don't give a fuck about someone's "decorum". We need MORE politicians speaking like normal people, fucks n shits left n right.

I want someone who isn't afraid to not give a fuck and do right by their constituents.

Meanwhile I'm stuck with fucking Trudeau who just victim blamed Professor Paty in France.

You're right. It's difficult for me to understand this thinking. I assume these people have unconsciously fallen for the media spin and try to legitimize their dislike of Trump without having anything substantive to support it.

To me, they've taken the blue pill and want to live in the fantasy where there aren't corrupt politicians, or they only exist on the 'other side', so any effort to engage with this, however cordial or conciliatory is seen as an affront or danger to their worldview.

Being Smart doesn't make you right... Trust me, being aware of hundreds or thousands of variables doesn't lead to better decision making.. You make more poor decisions because you become locked up and indecisive... Seeing to many options to many potentials locks you up binds you instead of freeing you...

It took me along time to figure this out. Now i go with my gut which actually has a vast and complicated neural network.. Right or Wrong i just make a decision and go with it rolling with whatever comes up along the way...

I never liked him and I am an atheist. He might as well be Kamala's brother.
