$3/rnd if you can find American Eagle on sale, it’s cheaper if you reload. LOTS of people want to shoot it, but balk once they’re told they get to cover ammo costs. 😂

What's really crazy is people see the Barret .50BMG as a super powerful rifle, and it is.
Many don't know that the M2 machine gun uses the same .50BMG cartridge.

the barret is indeed powerful, but not great as a sniper rifle. we used the barret to blow up IEDs in shitraq and afghanifuck. no real sniper would ever deploy a barret.
Might be useful in riot & looter control. We should do some tests to be sure.

When 50 BMG cartridges weren't doing the job, the USAAF upgraded to 20 mm and 37 mm cannon (fires explosive shells).
One Nazi nightfighter had a half dozen 30 mm cannon (He-219 A7/R6). Wish I had one of those.
Yeah, if I was getting into long range, I'd sooner opt for a 300 Win Mag. The thousands I'd save could go towards more ammo & reloading supplies and/or better glass.
And I'd end up with a rifle that, while not light, I could still hike into the hills and mountains with to bag an elk.
.300 Win Mag is plenty of muscle without the brandname “luxury tax”. It’s lethal well past 1000 yards which is plenty, and you can have one that’s accurate that far out for less $1000.
I have a cousin with a .338 Lapua who can ring steel at 2300 yards, buuuut he’s $12K into that rifle.
i have increased my cache to 200 rounds of 50bmg during the pandemic - availability is spotty but $3 per round has held steady since march

i enjoy making people happy so I don't mind letting strangers get off a shot or two at the range - it's definitely good for making friends.
Oh yah, at the range is cool, especially if they have a teen that wants to try. I was talking more about causal acquaintances and coworkers who think they’re going to go through 100 rounds like it’s an AR-15 or something. 😂

I think that's what Matt from Demolition Ranch said he has to pay for the armor-piercing .50 cal rounds. Maybe it's the incendiary. But I pay $0 for .50 cal rounds because I don't have a Barrett or anything else that can shoot .50 cal anything.
Fair enough, I'm sure there are specialty rounds that cost that much. I guess I was just thinking about shooting paper, 2 liter bottles and cinder blocks in the desert, in which case $17/rd ammo is overkill. The last time I shot BMG I think I reimbursed my buddies dad $2/rd for ammo. That was a few years ago, AmmoSeek is showing it at about $3/rd now.
$3 has been a constant price since march (at least as of a September when I got my last order).

If you get an ATACR. You could easily throw some $590 vortex glass on that and push it to 2,000 yards easily. Did it all the time with a Schmidt and bender 3-12 gen 2
The gun was so heavy you’ll notice how far to the side he has to lean to balance it. I think at the time of this pic it was 1/3 of his total weight.

Yes, can covers also keep you from getting burned, but heat mirage can cause issues when you're reaching out and touching something at longer distance.

Bro, how many rounds per minute you think that weapon does? It doesn't even have the ability to go the cycle. You can shoot a whole cart as fast as you can, which you would never do with that weapon in any situation and it wouldn't be that hot.

Insulation to keep it from burning something or someone. Think of it like a muffler for a car. The muffler gets real hot after it runs a lil bit.
If you're firing that rifle enough to burn the can, you're either a poor shot or in a very target rich environment.

I told my wife I wanted one of those for Christmas. 50 cal for my 50th Christmas. She said I'll get you the gun that shoots table salt at flies. I consider that a win.
