I disagree, there were several battles and wars before Gamergate. Gamergate was just the first one where we fought back.
New Atheism falling to Atheism plus comes to mind.
It certainly mobilized a faction of society to take a stand against the creeping cultural marxism.
Gamer Gate stems from the Men's Rights Movement, it was largely them who pushed back so hard and got the whole thing started then provided the arguments against Feminist/SJW corruption in journalism, after that it took on a life of it's own.
Paul Elam, the guy who first used the RedPill from the Matrix movies to explain the leftist dystopia we live in, and of AVFM https://avoiceformen.com/ had been battling Anita, Feministing(who they destroyed), SPLC, Universities, Family Law etc.. with the use of rude/offensive/in-your-face language and facts to unapologetically dismantle the leftist harpies for years, not entirely unlike Andrew Breitbart.

If you dig into it you'll actually find that this movement has been alive and well for a very long time, a guy named Ernest Belfort Bax (1854 – 1926) wrote a bunch of books on the topic like 100+ years ago, then add in people like Alex Jones or books like None Dare Call it a Conspiracy, Creature from Jekyll Island, McCarthy, Yuri Bezminov, Charlie Chaplin, JFK.. pretty interesting stuff to follow imo, especially once you factor in climate science and Christianity, soooo many movements all coming together to support the truth and fight against degeneracy and corruption.
Gamer gate didn't stem from the men's rights movement. They are definitely related as they pushed back against similar sjw talking points.
sure it did, a huge amount of the push back at the start came from the people in MRM, it also bled into comicon. I followed it all very closely as it unfolded from the beginning, used to watch all kinds of YouTube videos and read articles and posts and such about it for a long time. The MRM was a very small but very vocal fulcrum in the whole ordeal.
In a similar way the SJWs/Feminists were a catalyst on the other side of the issue, the story about the corruption in media reporting had been brewing between the 2 camps for years before it blew up in gamergate after the gamers got involved.
