You mean setting cities on fire wasn’t a good strategy?

98
REE_Salty 98 points ago +98 / -0

Why do Dems flock to big cities? Is it because it is easier to complain about things there?

165
Ragnar_Danneskjold 165 points ago +165 / -0

Real answer, division of labor and support services. Big cities both attract Leftists and create new ones. When you live in a city, there is always a service or department or business that will do everything but your one specific job for you. Maybe you're really good at photography or writing code or you're some deadbeat noise musician or poet or whatever. You do your one thing, but you have someone else to do everything else. Someone else picks up your trash, Someone else does your laundry, someone else fixes your AC, someone else handles your security, someone else makes your food, someone else drives you where you want to go, someone else makes your morning coffee, someone else shovels the snow, and on and on. For every little normal task of life, there is someone whose job it is to do that one thing for everyone else, and all those other people are doing those things for them, except for their one specialty in turn. This naturally breeds a collectivist mindset. It stifles the ability to be self-sufficient and removes the incentive to even try. It makes one feel comfortable blending into the embrace of the group to be taken care of. People who already want that sort of lifestyle naturally flock to these places, and people who grow up or live in them for too long start to think that way even if they originally didn't.

So collectivism is built into the blueprints of cities automatically. Add in that you're around a ton of other people so social factors like trends, fashion, popularity, and other things that crop up in any large group start to play on people's emotions. Everyone is seeing all these other people around them flashing their status symbols, from better cars, newer phones, fancier clothes, better apartments, and a resentment starts to flourish, which Marxists naturally take advantage of. It's hard for any of that to happen out in the sticks where there's a family of 8 living on a chunk of land, and a mile and a half down the road there's another family of 6, and so on.

EDIT: I'll also add it that self-reliance is easy to pass on to children, but also easy to destroy and very hard to restart once destroyed. Your dad can teach you how to change a tire, shoot a .22, spackle a hole in drywall, unclog a pipe, your mom can teach you how to cook, how to get a stain out, and so forth. But if you move to a city, forget how to do those things and have kids and don't teach them, those skills are now dead. Your kid can't move out of the city when he or she grows up and suddenly know how to do those things again. They're easy to pass on by just raising your kids to do the stuff you know how to do, but if something severs that chain of skills being passed on, only one break in the chain kills it from that point on. Each subsequent generation has no place to learn any of those things and has to start all the way over from scratch relearning how to do all of it by trial and error, and will likely only do so when some extreme emergency forces them to have to when it's already too late. So when people move to cities, not only are they slowly being taken into the embrace of collectivism, anything self-reliant they might have been taught is being killed off not just for them, but for every single one of their subsequent children or grandchildren. The skills are just gone, and each generation is now trapped in collectivism and couldn't easily escape even if they realized they should and wanted to try.

That sounds cool and all, but I prefer a tight knit village community. Something I never had living in urbanite shitholes.

If a bunch of conservatives founded their own self sufficient village out in the middle of nowhere it would be awesome

7
ModernKnight 7 points ago +7 / -0

Hahaha take a look at the election maps, that's pretty much every town and village out in the middle of nowhere. We found them, build them, make them great. Occasionally the commies find out about it, and start moving there because it works so well, and then they ruin it by bringing their policies along with them.

God I feel you. Especially the vegans/vegetarians. "Well, if you saw how an animal would be killed you wouldn't eat meat either".

Then I tell them the story when I visisted my best friend's house (grew up in a small village), since they were slaughtering a chicken.
And how we helped plucking the chicken, then played with its chopped off head while we waited for dinner. And how we - when we were teens - were allowed to behead them.

Then I ask if I should tell the stories about my sister's best friend's parents who had rabbits. Or the cows in our village. Sadly I'm rarely allowed to tell them.

City folk rarely has a clue how life really works.

13
Necrovoter 13 points ago +14 / -1

God I feel you. Especially the vegans/vegetarians. "Well, if you saw how an animal would be killed you wouldn't eat meat either".

I'd ask them if they were keeping any animals hostage for their own personal amusement. If "meat is murder" then "pets are slavery". If they asked if I was serious, I'd say "Serious as a badakathcare."

11
Italians_Invented_2A 11 points ago +11 / -0

This is an awesome good point.

I understand if someone has s cat or dog while living in a farm. But having a cat or a dog in an apartment sounds a lot like slavery.

3
kjj9 3 points ago +3 / -0

Housepets never mature. They are stuck in perpetual adolescence. But they have long, happy lives.

I wouldn't call it slavery though. They aren't people. They are animals who were put here for us.

1
conservativeyuppie 1 point ago +1 / -0

And that logic works for us because most of us also see nothing wrong with eating meat (because as you say, animals were put here for us), but it breaks the "logic" of people who oppose eating meat because it's "murder." So if you're so bleeding heart that you consider something practical like eating meat as "murder," then keeping one of those creatures as a pet that you control is slavery.

7
ContraryCynic 7 points ago +7 / -0

Do you tell 'em the best part about chicken-slaughtering, namely the fact that the body tries to keep going after you chop the head, so you throw 'em in a drum until it stops thrashing around? Lots of folk have a hard time hearing about that.

Maybe you're really good at photography

I'm a photographer and I have no idea why most in my profession are leftists.

Most photographers are their own small business... how the fuck can you be a small business owner and be a leftist?

Some people are just born retarded... I just decided.

16
ApprenticeParty 16 points ago +16 / -0

Same. I do photography part time. So many lefties, the ones by me are all BLMed out on instagram and pro communism - but charge exorbitant prices far above their skill levels, mostly target young white, good looking couples, and provide a lousy service as well.

6
zkSfp 6 points ago +6 / -0

I work professionally in the entertainment industry.

It’s because of the “art”.

If you’ve ever noticed.... on a set. The grips and stagehands are generally Republicans. Sure they’re union boys, but they love the country and the flag. They are doing hard work at the end of the day and want to keep their money.

Art departments, cinematography, writers, directors, actors, producers etc are dreamers. They live in constant fantasy land.

Post production is also generally center right (that’s where I am). But that’s because we’re pragmatic and solve prodblems. A lot of VFX concept and design falls into dreamers category but after Disney and some others fucked ILM and the union, they are more center right now.

Simply put, dreamers and doers.

If this is true, I'd be super happy.

However, it's just an estimate.

Unfortunately TargetSmart has a different estimate. They estimate 46% - 31% for the Democrats.

So I really hope that this data that you linked is more correct then TargetSmart.

Everyone seems to think these D voters are voting D, plenty have to be voting MAGA.

26
RedditStillSucks 26 points ago +26 / -0

This is my take aswell - If the data is true regarding rally attendance, we know that many D's have walked into the light.

Have you noticed most people dont call themselves "Republican" - they simply say "Trump Supporter"

8
2Fangz 8 points ago +9 / -1

29% independent!? That's significant. Those are basically as good as Trump votes because independent voters are mostly dems who've wasted their vote for whatever reason, so every independent vote is a vote the dems missed out on.

12
noPTSDforMePlease 12 points ago +12 / -0

not in minnesota. we have a large green party/weed party presence.

we really are a completely weird state, politically. All of our democrats are pro gun because of hunting. also, we aren't even democrats up here, we are actually DFL (Democrat-Farmer-Labor) and are not technically the same party as the rest of the country.

9
Tardigrade 9 points ago +9 / -0

This is so wildly different than whats shown on TardSmart. I wonder which is closer to true. The land of 10k lakes is one of the states that doesnt publish early voter returns by party, so this has to be some kind of model or esrimate.

Many of the blue dots are ancestral Dems voting Trump. Especially up north.

Good analysis here: https://twitter.com/mngander92/status/1322620526859341826

I used to live in MN and my family is there. I've been watching it closely. I thought Trump had a chance in 2016 and he came so close. Ever since then...it seems to be getting closer. I want it for Trump so bad! He wants it too.
