Can we ask why Sydney?

I spend some weeks in Geneva last year. My company made an acquisition, and I was selected to help integrate a customer program. Not my first time in Switzerland, and it was just as fun as the last time.

The only thing better than international travel for pleasure is international travel for work.

Her (now) fiancee lives in Sydney. They met online (it's a long story.) He and his family came over here to meet us and they're terrific. Then we went over a year ago to visit and had a fantastic time. Never in my wildest dreams for her 26 years ago could I have hoped for a better outcome.

I've done a number of international trips and have found if I can just zone out for 10-15 hours it goes quite well.

Pay close attention to what Australia is doing to it's citizens under the guise of "covid"...

Make sure she see's the video's if she's not already aware.

There is something truly sinister and evil going on down there, things that are only possible once the government takes away the guns as they have already done to them, and plan to do to us.

If she's smart enough to come home to vote, and to celebrate her birthday... she's probably smart enough to see whats coming. Might be a good idea to stay here if she can, we might be one of the last free developed places on the planet soon... some would say we already are.

That is actually largely centered in Melbourne, Victoria. Not Sydney, New South Wales.

Much like the USA, Australia is a federation of states. Each with their own state government. And the response to covid, while much more centralised than in the USA is still largely delegated to the states to handle. Our nation health department, much like your CDC gave guidelines. Beyond that it was pretty much left to the states.

For instance here in Western Australia. We only really had restaurants, bars, and cafes and gyms close down. And they've been reopened with no other restrictions for months now.

Victoria is our equivalent of Oregon, and Melbourne is Portland. New I don't want to be misleading here, we are indeed not quite as protected by as strict a constitution as y'all are in the states. But I've seen plenty of videos to suggest that hasn't helped y'all much over there in the states.

I won't suggest that Australia, Victoria in particular, is handling the pandemic great from a civil liberties standpoint. But guns don't appear to be helping you all much as cities have been locked down there for months too. Also, we do have guns, just not as many or as freely gotten as in the states.

As far as freedom, on a very flawed rating system we're doing pretty well. https://www.worldfreedomindex.com/

The one thing I do very much envy you for, is Donald J Trump. Who, if given a proper opportunity is very much turning the respect for civil liberties around over there.

the issue as i see it, is the complete dominance of the people in the areas i'm talking about. police swarming people for riding bikes or not wearing a mask in their cars...

i just don't understand how or why people put up with this shit, and i don't think they would be taking it to such an extreme were you guys as well armed as we are.

I'm not advocating violence, i'm merely suggesting the potential for people fighting back curtails a lot of government over-reach.

The government over there is free to do whatever they want to you guys now that you have no guns.

Again, not saying it's the only reason they don't mess with us as much... but it's certainly a factor... and taking away your rights to defend yourself would be a massive red flag for me to get the hell out as quickly as possible before that also becomes illegal.

Perfectly stated, in my opinion.

When I was over there a year ago, aside from the giant bush fires, I had a wonderful time. Great, people, great food, it was nearly perfect. But your 'sinister' line really grabbed my attention. Most of my time was spent in Northbridge, New South Wales, and as I rode around to see the sites, I noticed a lot of large random "NSW.gov" signs scattered everywhere. They struck me as a very Orwellian "Big Brother" thing. It was slightly oppressive.

Also, I was drafted into the US Army in 1970 where I started a smoking habit that I haven't shaken yet. Cigarettes here are $5.20 a pack, which is kinda outrageous, but over there they are $20 a pack. They seem a little over-the-top on controlling behavior.

you see people posting on this site all the time how we are the last hope for the world as far as freedom and liberty goes. if we go down, they all go down.

There has been an incremental creep of authoritarianism all around the world... sorta like that ole "how do you boil a frog" thing.

we are very sensitive to temperature changes here in our pot of water, the rest of the world is either at a full boil or simmering.

I'm certainly not suggesting that Australia is anything like north korea or china... but i will say they are headed in that direction faster than i ever thought possible. Out of all the "free" nations in the world they are sorta the posterchild for "taking shit way to far" with this covid situation.

And like you said, not every part of the country but the federal/national government sure isn't stopping the smaller governments from violating people's freedom or liberty.

It's just as hard for others to understand our concept of freedoms as it sometimes is for us to understand theirs. We are one of the last places on earth where rights are a default position, and not granted to us at the mercy of the ruling class.

Our foundations are what has saved us, which is why so many evil people in the world and within our boarders are constantly trying to undermine them.

Good luck in all the things patriot... but keep an eye on that government over there and make sure they have a GTFO plan in case things accelerate.

Asking for many Frens, no doubt.

(Not me, I'm happily hitched to a MAGA gal who keeps a Trumpy Bear in my chair when I'm away.)

Never flown to Australia, but know many who have and 100% say it's beyond brutal, especially outside of business class. Your daughter is a hero(ine).
