Don’t fall into the SJW mindset of overthinking relatively simple situations in order to find justifications for behaviors. It’s much healthier (and more masculine) to instead try to identify the fundamental empirical situation and work from there to try to deduce if a certain behavior is rational and beneficial or not.
That idea using porn as an example would be like this: The only reason we watch porn and masturbate so often these days is because it’s easy to access. Your ancestors, for thousands of years, lived perfectly happy lives without easy access to porn. It shouldn’t be a big deal at all to cut out porn, given that you come from a long line of successful men who also did not watch the stuff.
Lol... just a quick anecdote but... during my field research, I've run across no shortage of antique dealers with centuries-old highly explicit erotic art/pornography (America- yes, but much older items were found when I was abroad in Nepal, China, Japan, etc.). I didn't purchase any of these because, for starters, they are quite expensive, but they also aren't related to my area of study. Anyhow, back on topic, if your life is better for not having any porn whatsoever, then all the more power to you. Let's not kid ourselves about our ancestors not having porn though. They did. So do I. Other people's addiction to porn isn't my burden. But by all means, no nut November for whoever wants or needs it.
What a wild career haha that must have been so fascinating!
I mean, I agree with you to a point. But vices aren’t a new phenomenon either. They had booze and drugs back in ancient times too. What is the best way to make sure you never become addicted in a life-ruining way to any of those vices? To refuse to indulge your temptations by avoiding them altogether. Always will be too.
Thank you kindly. hat tip You're right with regards to vices. There is some satisfaction in scratching and itch, but yes, it would of course be better not to itch at all. I guess I'm not there yet. Cheers~
Exactly! And so would we. But we choose to use some of those regardless for the simple reason that they enhance our lives and society. How exactly does porn meet that criteria?
So it’s not beneficial or useful. That’s the point. It’s a vice, just like any vice you can think of such as gambling and recreational drugs: in moderation, it may be fine, but when indulged excessively by an addict? It’s a path to disaster.
Thus, the rational conclusion becomes: resist indulging that temptation to pursue vices because the risks are greater than the rewards.

The human condition, I suppose: that which we shouldn’t have is always more tempting than being virtuous!
our ancestors lived fine without electricit, medicine, cars, fuel, Trump, etc as well

Porn is bad, but in the word of Donald Trump: I’ll keep drinking (watching) that garbage anyways!
