The paper says nothing about masks. Stop lying.

What it does say is that the Spanish flu pandemic predated widespread availability of antibiotics (penicillin was discovered in 1928).

Viral pneumonia led to secondary bacterial infections. The source of the bacteria was colonies already present in the upper respiratory tract.

Even today, 20-30% of people carry the bacteria in their nose, on their skin, etc. It can be more or less harmless (held at bay by your immune system), only to explode when something compromises your health.

Spez: here's a direct cite from the article:

We believe that the weight of 90 years of evidence (table 3), including the exceptional but largely forgotten work of an earlier generation of pathologists, indicates that the vast majority of pulmonary deaths from pandemic influenza viruses have resulted from poorly understood interactions between the infecting virus and secondary infections due to bacteria that colonize the upper respiratory tract. The data are consistent with a natural history in which the virus, highly cytopathic to bronchial and bronchiolar epithelial cells, extends rapidly and diffusely down the respiratory tree, damages the epithelium sufficiently to break down the mucociliary barrier to bacterial spread, and if able to gain access to the distal respiratory tree—perhaps on the basis of receptor affinity —creates both a direct pathway for secondary bacterial spread and an environment (cell necrosis and proteinaceous edema fluid) favorable to bacterial growth.

An wearing a mask for extended periods creates a humid petri dish that promotes the multiplication of that bacteria

If you don't wash your mask and reuse it repeatedly, it will likely cause problems with the bacteria that is already in your mouth. But, that's not the fault of the mask.

"If you don't wash your mask and reuse it repeatedly"

But that is the issue, many people don't, or do reuse them repeatedly And Breathing back humid air creates and environment much better for the growth of bacteria, allowing bacteria that already exists to multiply at a much greater level, one that can lead to health problems.

Rather than citing my post out of context, perhaps you should have read the rest of it:

If you don't wash your mask and reuse it repeatedly, it will likely cause problems with the bacteria that is already in your mouth. But, that's not the fault of the mask.

Out-of-context citations are the hallmark of the Misleadia (see: Charlottesville, VA)

Sooo are masks "dangerous" or not?

2
DisgustedByMisleadia 2 points ago +2 / -0

No, they aren't. Wash them regularly, and you'll be fine.

I have a set of about 7 that I rotate daily, then throw them in the washer with the towels.

He said once that we shouldn't wear masks then revsersed....Fauci is a criminal. Dude is worse than mengele

Fauci admitted that he said that to preserve the limited supplies of PPE for health care workers.

"admitted"... He pivoted TO the lie

Right or wrong, that was the reason. Obama had depleted the mask stockpile, then didn't replenish it.

On top of that, China sent their ex-pats into every retailer in the US (and elsewhere in the world) to buy up all the N95 masks and ship them back to China -- before the rest of the world realized the extent of the epidemic.

Then, since most N95 masks are made in China, they jacked up the prices to sell them back to us.

I didn’t see it either. I’m guessing that there is data that proves masks harbor bacteria, which is why bacteria killed more people infected with the Spanish flu than the flu Did alone.

If you actually read the article, it explains the relationship: the bacteria was already in the upper respiratory tract and exploded when viral pneumonia compromised the patient.

No, it doesn't.

This is a news release from the NIH about the paper. It is written for a layman audience:

I didn't see masks mentioned even once in that article. As much as I wanted to see it there, the title you wrote is bullshit. We don't need bullshit sensationalist headlines. People will share this blindly and very quickly be made to look foolish.

The article mentions that secondary bacterial infection killed more people than the flu alone. I’m guessing the masks harbor bacteria which can cause secondary infection.

I recall reading that Fauci did coauthor a paper that said that masks were a contributing factor in deaths from the spanish flu, read about it last week I think, sorry do not have a link

Stop lying about the article.

If it really provides the evidence, then quote it from the article.

Or shut the hell up.

1
Bonami 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, I know, as well as lockdowns. The best studies are on the origins of the flu, studies show it was caused by a large series of vaccines given to troops about to be sent to the front lines. They got the shots and began dropping dead...

He read the article, then called you out for lying about it.

If he's wrong, then cite the exact quotes from the article that prove him wrong.

Or shut the hell up, asshole.

But, if we just wear these masks harder it’ll be so much betterer.

Masks weren't about stopping the virus, it was about giving BLM and antifa an excuse to wear them.
