Immoral behavior is not just wrong because it’s immoral, it’s logically unsound. An immoral person’s flaws are flaws not just in personality but in the very logic of their world view. If a person gets ahead through immoral means, so be it. It will only be temporary. That is to say, short term gain is no match for long term investment. And further, those that are not moral in their behavior are just as temporary. They will either learn from their immorality and become moral or burn every opportunity until none remain.
Freedom to pursue happiness means the ability to learn from mistakes and suffer because of it, just as much as it to actually achieve it.
Morality has to be imposed on some level. That's the whole point of a culture.
If we do not impose morality in schools, others will. If we do not impose it in media, others will.
Nature abhors a vacuum. There is debate as to what morality that should be; but it has to be something.
Or do you stand for nothing? Some seem to see America's promise as a self-sustaining land where anyone comes to just be themselves. That was always a fantastical lie told to us to get us to lower our guard.
I would say there is no difference between “self evident truths” and morality. The truth is immoral behavior is not just an emotional response. It’s dumb.
Example: “don’t do drugs” we can debate government involvement into drug use all day, but regardless we can certainly establish drug use is not a moral behavior.
If you want to teach children not to be dumb, more power to you. I won’t stand in the way.
Came here to say this. Entirely agree.

I disagree that drug use is inherently immoral. It's certainly not a self evident truth. Theft, or assault might be better examples.
