But when you pay people more, the money has to come from somewhere. Their products will be more expensive and they'll either be forced to hire less or hire americans to stay competitive.
I'm of the opinion that we want smart immigrants here. However, the problem with H1B visas is that companies are hiring a bunch of cheap talent and treating them like slaves. This particular rule looks like an excellent compromise.
I understand that the point is to make it more expensive to hire the foreign workers. So what? It's not a good enough improvement. A good enough improvement would end the practice all together. My post is asking why the Trump administration has settled for this "improvement" rather than ending the practice all together.
I’m not Trump, but I assume it has to do with the fact it will cause problems if the system is shut down altogether because companies are currently relying on this influx of labor. Any job making under 208k automatically goes to American workers now. It’s a start. If these immigrants are making over that amount, they’re probably very important to the company’s structure.
Also, look up Stephen Miller’s immigration plan. Huge improvement to the current system.
Why not pay Americans the American wages?
Except, some companies, like for example those owned by Indians who want to hire only Indians like the racists they are, will pay the higher wage.
Why are you defending hiring foreigners over Americans? Are you a foreigner? Are you an H1B visa holder?
So let them.

We want smart immigrants here to displace Americans from American jobs for what reason?
Compromise? Why is any compromise needed at all? Why not just do away with H1B visas all together?
The whole point is to make sure that the workers they’re underpaying get sent back or get paid more. Many will get sent back.
It costs companies more to import workers due to visas and arrangements the company has to make, so they’re incentivize to hire Americans.
I would prefer it if we only hired HB1 immigrants only for rare skills or talent, but this is a big improvement to the current system.
