The left has no principles. Whether it's voting, racial equality, free speech, anti-war, or anything else - they only do it when it benefits their side...
I'm sorry to see that, the South withdrew from the Union because of lack of representation and taxes. The Dred-Scott Decision had made slavery a non-issue for both sides. The South paid taxes when their raw goods were sold in the North and when the imported finished goods from the North, the North paid nothing. And given the imbalance in representation in Congress at the time there was no way to change the taxes.
Further "The North's Morrill Tariff, adopted March 2, 1861, two days before Lincoln's first inaugural and six weeks before the bombardment of Fort Sumter, was like pumping gasoline into a fire. It was astronomical and made entry of goods into the North 37 to 50% higher than entry into the South. For the south it was the last straw.
The South was guaranteed the right to withdraw in the Constitution, for its flag to be vilified now is wrong and an affront to history
The NH Union Democrat gave the North 60 days before their mills would stop because they would have no cotton. It is no coincidence that in 55 days, Abraham Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to invade the South. He could have reached out to the South, ending tariffs and giving representation but no.
His enlistment laws forced my great uncle just arrived in NY from Ireland into the Union army. He was good with horses, once the army put him in charge of horses he saw his chance, stole them, went across enemy lines and sold them to the Confederacy. He then went to Mexico, sat out the war, returning to NY where he opened a bar room.
Another great uncle was part of Grant's honor guard at his funeral, my family has it all :)
One term Tate fucked the citizens of that state. They already voted to keep the original flag, but apparently that wasn't good enough.

Tate stole our voice for the flag when he forced the change. Fellow Mississippians I know are pissed.
