For Fucks Sake- Teachers and Lawyers, huge blue circles

Huh. Librarians. They're usually the "Free Speech" crowd who will insist on keeping copies of all books, from the Kama Sutra to Mein Kampf to Anarchist's Cookbook available on sheer principal. Disappointed.

Girlfriend's mom, retired librarian, super anti-don and pro-dem.

I think she's just been in a super-bubble her whole life (divorced from my GF's extra conservative dad pretty early). Super nice, great host of game-nights, etc, but very afraid of freedom and will always vote for 'security' and 'feel-good' legislation.

Until very recently, the Democrats did have the good PR of being the "freedom" party and the Republicans the "repressive moralizing religious nutcases." This really only changed in 2016, which is ironic given they keep trying to pretend Obama was a cool, hip, beloved-by-youth president, and he's the one who was the face of the party when it went harder on repression of free speech and expression than the Republicans ever did in their bad-PR 90s.

If you told me in 2010 who, in 2020, did I think would be censoring art and newspapers and the like, I'd have bet the farm on Republicans.

Very interesting. Once again my husband and I are outliers. We are retired software engineers. Computer types are commie control freaks.

Interesting. Current SWE who donated to Trump. My friend works with SWEs in Arizona who "can't wait" for Trump to be re-elected.

Same. Weird, too. Not to circlejerk too much, but our job requires a fair amount logic, problem solving, etc, odd that the majority seem to lean left. Or maybe its just a loud minority in the bay area.

Lots of SWE's tend to think that anything can be "solved" by applying the right algorithm or technology which leads to a specific type of arrogance. Which is why they'll believe stupid things like centrally planned economies being feasible. Then you add the "move fast and break things" mantra which can be fine for a "disruptive" start up, but doesn't work so well when you're tearing down institutions that took decades to get where they were and replacing them with the legislative equivalent of Pets.com.

In my experience the, the ones work with mobile, web, social media, entertainment, etc. lean left. But the people writing code for manufacturing, automotive, medical, aviation, etc. applications lean right. Or maybe people who lean a certain way are more attracted to one field or another. Flashy stuff vs. the "blue collar" side of SWE.

Ha! I was just thinking that, but didn't type it out. I'm a full-stack, but mostly backend .net stack developer on a 'boring', internal, line-of-business set of applications. But I have an awesome team and love my job. Midwest-based as well.

I wouldn't last a full day in a FANG type place in the bay area. I wouldn't want to work there, and they wouldn't want me

And yeah, I don't really want to agile my way into shitty legislation that never fucking goes away

Teachers and professors are the next big target if you ask me. They are responsible for indoctrinating and brainwashing thousands of 18-24 year olds.

When you put it that way it makes sense why liberals and conservatives are divided along a very specific line. The liberal and conservative divide is between people in industries who depend on government subsidies and handouts to maintain their industry. By contrast conservatives are concentrated in circles where they remain independent from pensions or weekly subsidized government paychecks. With the exception of police officers, which we know is a very uniquely shifting case at the moment, there's a near horizon split of population that is dependent and independent of and for government money. Also consider that lobbying is a form of dependency on government, meaning lawyers cough cough.

Being one myself, I am disappointed in that engineers donated to Biden more readily than Trump. Especially since engineering jobs are not that secure under Demonic Rat rule with all of the foreign competition with cheaper workers...
