CA was solid red until Ronald Reagan's amnesty bill, ironically. But I don't think he realized the extent of duplicitousness and corruption of the Democrats back then, they still had their masks on to some extent.

Even if we don't flip CA, we may win a few seats that the Dems think they have in the bag and surprise them. It will also scare them if it's really close, and that means that they will have to stop taking this state for granted and may even get the GOP to start paying attention to CA again.
To win many House seats in CA, without the Republican candidate having a huge lead after 99% of votes are in, the Republicans will have to be willing to do the ballot harvesting too. If the lead isn't big enough the DemocRATS knock on doors until they collect enough ballots to overcome the Republican candidate's advantage.
In 2018, some races took over a week to be called because the DemacRATS had bigger Republican leads to overcome. DemocRATS took the House in 2018 because, somehow, in CA, they can keep collecting ballots until they win. And if the Republicans don't harvest ballots this time, the same thing will happen.

I voted for Trump this year after voting for Obama and then Jill Stein. Proud to have voted in CA even if sleepy Joe wins that state.
