My Mother got me on the Trump train, back in the 80's. She made me read the story of Annabelle Hill when I was a kid. I wanted to go hang out with my friends, but she made me read the whole article.
She was a farmer's wife who was about to loose her family's farm to foreclosure after her husband's suicide and sent a letter asking for help to Mr. Trump who she heard was a very successful real estate developer in New York City. He heard her plea, confirmed her story and setup a fund raiser between himself and some wealthy friends. He called the auction company and stopped the sale. He then raised the funds, and flew to GA and visited her before Christmas and had a mortgage burning party with her.
After reading all this I said to my mom, "well it's really cool he would do that for a stranger, but why did you make me read this?"
My mom answered, with more than a bit of emotion "Son, if you are ever successful, and I know you will be, I want you to know that that is the kind of man you should be."
The day he announced, I was already on the Trump train.
