If we're going to be super technical here, aren't the actual electors within the electoral college who contribute directly to the final official tally?

Theoretically, the vast majority of the electors' votes will align with the popular vote of the area they represent...

My main point being that there is a direct separation at play from the election result and the vote of citizens when it comes to the ACTUAL decision itself.
