I did it in July. Beautiful. My pictures caused a buddy to take his family there a week later. We were only there for a week. I didn’t see half of what I wanted to.
We drove through it, but took the quick route. I saw one of the lodges and it looked nice. Custer is tops on my list. As is the longer route through Badlands- the Indian sections were off limits at the time. I had recommended a 10-12 day trip but got outvoted by people who thought 5 was more appropriate. We settled on 7 days.
We went there last month for two weeks. Custer, Spearfish, just a beautiful area. No masks really anywhere except Rapid city which was nice, almost like living in a free country. I want to move there but not sure about the snow.
We didn’t see masks outside of the hotel/restaurants (workers) and people watching the stagecoach robbery (or whatever the street theatre thing was) in deadwood- maybe 20% of people. It was so damn refreshing.
The Rapid City area may be the best place in the country for a family vacation.
Drive up and down Spearfish Canyon in the fall you will know you're in heaven
Its true. I was born there. I would know 🤣😁

Next time stay in Custer State Park in one of the State game lodges highly recommend Blue Bell Lodge rent one of their cabins
Custer is the best state park in the country.
I got stuck in a bison jam there once. It lasts until they decide it’s over.

Got to see Spearfish Canyon in the summer, even after a bad windstorm. Sitll looked marvelous.
Absolutely great for vacation. Can't say much about living there though.
You got that right, drive up the hill to Custer and we'll show you a good time!
My great grandfather was Sheriff of Lawrence County.
I can’t wait to go back.
