I did it in July. Beautiful. My pictures caused a buddy to take his family there a week later. We were only there for a week. I didn’t see half of what I wanted to.
We drove through it, but took the quick route. I saw one of the lodges and it looked nice. Custer is tops on my list. As is the longer route through Badlands- the Indian sections were off limits at the time. I had recommended a 10-12 day trip but got outvoted by people who thought 5 was more appropriate. We settled on 7 days.
Drive up and down Spearfish Canyon in the fall you will know you're in heaven
Its true. I was born there. I would know 🤣😁

Next time stay in Custer State Park in one of the State game lodges highly recommend Blue Bell Lodge rent one of their cabins
Custer is the best state park in the country.
I got stuck in a bison jam there once. It lasts until they decide it’s over.
I watched a bison absolutely destroy a Toyota in Custer State Park.
I some that state park. Used to work at Camp Bob Marshal years back. The hiking was always fantastic.
I had one lick the hood and front bumper of my car for 20 minutes there
