I'm on the younger side, but I still remember the '90s when republicans were blue. What the fuck happened why did republicans just accept the fuck up on tv an take red? OAN had a thing about it the other day but since I was too young in '00 (when it switched) to care and since my 18th birthday was after the election in '04 I just didn't care.

I’ve wonder this for my entire life. I’ve asked the old folks & they can’t recall either. It seems like it was the 2000 election. It use to be “better res than dead” & I think the media changed it so they could hide their commie intentions.
The 2000 election's results were so historic + aftermath, that it just became part of the lexicon. A spontaneous tradition that stuck.
You can go look at the 84 election results on YouTube, and Reagan was shown as red as well. No real deep meaning to them.
