I really want a non shitpost answer please... how does one "stop counting votes and resume in the morning"? Has that ever happened before?

Poll workers are told to go home and get some sleep. Ballots are locked up and workers return later in the day.

Very rare. It's a disgrace it's being done in tight presidential contests.

I mean, it's not like they work them overnight on a regular job.. it's one night in 4 years and they know in advance it can go overtime.
