I managed a polling site yesterday. You don't magically lose or find ballots. They're all accounted for. What I did see is how easy it would be to cheat. All you need is a nefarious person ma aging a polling site and they can completely cheat it
Wisconsin turns out doesn't verify the signatures on absentee ballots, and they don't verify who the deliverer of the ballots are. It's a circus act. It's less secure than "heads up seven up".
That's insane. When we finally settle this an win, there needs to be such a huge focus on securing our elections. I don't see us getting another candidate with as much enthusiasm as Trump in 2024, so if we don't address it now we're fucked for many many years to come

A mail in ballot here is two envelopes. You vote and put it in the first, seal it, then put it in the second to mail to your local voting office/council. You must send it so that it gets to the voting office before the end of the voting day. In fact in most cases it's two days before.
This is because it gets opened under witness and your vote envelope is placed in a ballot box JUST LIKE IT WOULD IF YOU VOTED IN PERSON.
Because voting is in person.
Then they count the votes as normal.
So if your vote cannot be placed into the system before the end of the day it should not count. In the UK if doesn't count. And that's for all types of election and referenda
