I am going to debunk this unless you can convince me otherwise. We used felt markers in our poll location. You could also use a pen, the votes were definitely recorded, both dems and repubs, the machine prints out a record and also spits out the ballot if you do it incorrectly, like a check or too big a circle, even if you try to put it in the wrong ED machine number, they also have memory cards to record data, that with the paper ballot gets submitted. The marker thing is bullshit in my opinion and experience.
It would seem many people are reporting their ballots are being cancelled and that their ballot officials gave them sharpies to fill out ballots. Not conclusive, but far from anecdotal.
Yeah, can’t speak for Arizona, I’m in NY, never heard of a cancelled ballot. We call them spoiled, if you make an error or the machine won’t accept the ballot, we spoil it, and give you a new ballot to fill out and put into the machine, did it multiple times last night with all parties, people don’t follow directions well. Just speaking from my own experience, especially since you only posted a pic of a marker, didn’t know about the news story. But did have a friend send me a similar meme this am, kinda aware of the marker buzz
