Trump got massive Cuban support in this election, winning by over 100k votes. These people fled to America from a communist country and they know what the Dems stand for.
I'm not sure if there's polls for how Californian expats vote in states outside of California. But at least if our instincts are to be believed, the majority of them still vote for Democrats even though Dems destroyed their home state.
Does anyone know why one group flees from something and votes against it, while the other group flees from something and votes for it? Polish and other Eastern European Americans generally vote for the GOP. I honestly have no idea. People are people so I see no inherent reason why. Do we just need to do a better job reaching out to Californian expat communities in states like Colorado and Arizona? Maybe replicate the success that we had with Cubans in this election, and with the Polish in the past.
In New England, city dwellers flee to the "country" towns because of what they don't like about city life.
Once here, they try to change it, by bringing in parts of the city they liked. In the beginging, they are told to GFY by the people there, but enough of them move in, and the charm of the country town changes, taxes go up, freedoms go down.
Human nature. They just can't help themselves. But the Cubans remember. They pass it down to younger generations.
There are two other fronts of this battle, If one-size-fits-all legislation and regulation from the State Capitol a hundred miles away doesn't change the town, the insurance companies do, by denying you coverage if you don't have the same constructions you need in the suburbs or cities.
