The Russian Orthodox church was largely gutted during the years of persecution and compromise under communism. It has rebounded slightly, but less than a quarter of the population are observant Christians. Russia also isn't Western.

Western Europe and Northern Europe are post-Christian. French Christianity was subverted during the Enlightenment/French Revolution. British and German Christianity were subverted during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Same with the nordic countries. The churches of Eastern Europe were hamstrung and neutered under communism.

In the past hundred years Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa all apostatized as well.

The United States is the only Western nation where a majority of the population not only identifies as Christian, but actually attends church and practices the faith.

You're right on the money Tullipso and like the Bible says,

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 NASB

Also my pastor quoted Ravi Zacharias (if I remember correctly) last Sunday with this quote.

"The battle has never been left or right, but vertical."
