There's no way he could be president with such a spectre of illegitimacy. We always knew he was a trojan horse, but perhaps he's also a scapegoat in the biblical sense. Symbolically endowed with the sins of the people, led far into the wilderness and released.

I know the Old Testament (and NT for that matter) context you’re referring to, but you still lost me. How could he be a scapegoat in the Biblical sense?
I just meant to clarify the meaning since scapegoat has a slightly different meaning in today's vernacular.
