They absolutely used to be able to co-exist, back when liberals weren't leftists. Back when we disagreed with opinions but could move on with our life.
But today, you are absolutely right. The left has moved so radically far left that even a compromise now means for a conservative to basically throw out there entire value system as the compromise means accepting leftist rule. It has created such a divide, coupled with the insane amount of leftist hate that coexistence is impossible. I mean this is the party that literally uses black lives matter as a fundraiser, actively encourages violence, burns cities to the ground, but somehow think it's all the Republicans who stayed home and aren't protesting are the violent ones.
The biggest problem right now is that conservatives are raised with the traditional American value of, we can disagree agreeably, or the extreme of thinking that leftists are dumb. However, leftists are raised to dehumanize anyone who disagrees with them. That anyone who disagrees with them MUST be a racist, sextist, misogynistic, xenophobic bigot because only a racist sexist bigot and a terrible human being could ever disagree with a catchy Democrat slogan. And don't forget a racist xenophobic bigot isn't human, they are literally using dehumanizing approaches just like the nazis with the jews... but somehow... Republicans are bad.
