Case Summary Maricopa County sought to include an instruction with its general election early ballots instructing voters who wish to correct a mistaken vote to simply cross out the erroneous vote and fill in the oval next to the chosen candidate. Plaintiffs Arizona Public Integrity Alliance and Tyler Montague, a voter on the County’s permanent early voter list (“PEVL”) who votes via early ballot, sought to enjoin the County’s use of the new instruction alleging that it contradicts state law. Defendant Adrian Fontes is the Maricopa County Recorder.
As you can see the original complaint was filed in August of 2020, then all the way up the court system into the State Supreme Court (which is the opinion we have today). It was not "filed" and "ruled" on in the same day.
I am not a lawyer and don't understand this stuff, but on the first page it shows what I will put below.

Is this a quote from the recent AZ Sup Ct decision that cut off the deadline to register to vote and made it October 15th, instead of the end of the month like the Dems wanted to change it to? That’s the only thing that comes to mind, and it looks like it’s a recent decision based on the 2020 citation in the screenshot.

That's correct, and there's more about the problem here.
Note that you could always alter a ballot by voting for multiple candidates in a single race and cause the vote for that race on that ballot to be invalidated (overvote). That is, someone could intercept a ballot and if it was a vote for Trump, also fill in the circle next to Biden's name and Trump wouldn't get credit for the vote (neither would Biden). The difference here is that with this new method of making a correction you could change the ballot to actually register a vote for Biden.
In case it isn't obvious to people, if an intercepted ballot is altered and then voided, that takes away a vote from one candidate. But if an intercepted ballot is alternated and then counted, that takes away one vote from a candidate and ADDS one vote to the other. In a two candidate race, that doubles the effect an altered vote can have.
These bastards are intentionally pile-driving this system into the ground. They don't give a fuck how big of a mess they make - they want to cause chaos and catastrophe because to them, Trump is the literal equivalent of Hitler, and they would rather destroy the integrity of the election process over a false projection that Trump is Hitler than they would allow this Hitler to come into a second term.

This lawsuit was regarding two elections earlier this year, not the General Election that occurred earlier this week.
So, the question is whether those new instructions were in the General Election mail-in ballots or not? If so, the ballots with overvotes that were corrected in the manner described by the new instructions should have that race invalidated.
The concern here is that with a mail-in ballot, someone could intercept the ballot in the mail and change the voter's selection and the election counters would accept that as the "will of the voter". The law states that if a voter makes a mistake on the ballot and they want to correct/change their selection, they would need to request a new ballot and make the correct choice. That's pretty easy to do when you're voting in-person at a polling location. A bit more difficult if you're sending ballots out in the mail (and then you have to worry about people requesting several ballots and sending them back under different names).
In any case, this Fontes guy took it upon himself to change the procedure and he had no authority to do it and the court took him to the woodshed in their ruling.
Maybe I skimmed too fast, but I thought it said he sent out the illegal ballots even after the lower court ruled the instructions were illegal. Shouldn’t there be contempt proceedings or something?
What's fucked up is will they rule this against mass mail in? Or will the rule it against counting every last mail in that might clearly be fraudulent but protected because no laws outline preventing fraudulent votes.

The concern here is that with a mail-in ballot, someone could intercept the ballot in the mail and change the voter's selection and the election counters would accept that as the "will of the voter". The law states that if a voter makes a mistake on the ballot and they want to correct/change their selection, they would need to request a new ballot and make the correct choice. That's pretty easy to do when you're voting in-person at a polling location. A bit more difficult if you're sending ballots out in the mail (and then you have to worry about people requesting several ballots and sending them back under different names).
In any case, this Fontes guy took it upon himself to change the procedure and he had no authority to do it and the court took him to the woodshed in their ruling.
Maybe I skimmed too fast, but I thought it said he sent out the illegal ballots even after the lower court ruled the instructions were illegal. Shouldn’t there be contempt proceedings or something?

What's fucked up is will they rule this against mass mail in? Or will the rule it against counting every last mail in that might clearly be fraudulent but protected because no laws outline preventing fraudulent votes.
