I agree with you about how they make audiences feel smart. And more importantly right. They were good at projecting intelligence but there's no there, there. And they can't admit they were wrong which is the hallmark of someone bright.
It's fitting that their relevance rose and fell with Reddit which has a similar audience and attitude.
