Maybe they were told which places were being rigged. I don't think any news was more energetic about a Biden landslide than they were/are. Also, I think a part of it was predicting Biden landslide so that a narrow win would be more acceptable to the uninformed/ fox watching republicans. It's a classic leftist move. they go radically far and then compromise in their direction. They sell it as a loss because it wasn't their goal despite their actual win, and everyone on the right thinks, "oh wow, we got lucky", but in reality we get ripped off every time.
