Let’s say that $200B is straight up laundered and stolen by corrupt politicians and their accomplices. (Like a billion to Ukraine?) We try, convict, and hang all those people great, problem solved.
Now we are down to $1.8T. The rest of this money falls into a much more gray area. Politicians claiming their constituents need whatever, and government contractors more than happy to charge a premium just below criminal to provide that service.
“Jobs” are created, campaigns are funded, all of the workers who fill these jobs cheer on their patron politicians.
We are still at 90% of the original waste/bloat and it’s all perfectly legal, with lawyers and lobbyists all ready to fight to the death if anyone comes after their place at the trough.
The people who need to change the laws to shrink these budgets and shut down these programs are the same ones who benefit from them.
