A recount is only a step in the process and can give the Trump team a lot of good data. Like how many votes were cast in-person and how many were mail ins or absentee.
Taking that data and comparing it with registered voter counts, recorded mail outs for the mail in ballots (how many the state mailed out), etc, they can identify discrepancies that indicate fraud and gives them more legal ammo to contest.
