Do we need to be ready to fight in the streets? Is this going to be the tipping point for an American civil war? Worried for my kids but I’d fight to the last breath for them.

You should always be prepared for some emergency... hurricane, earthquake, fire, zombie apocalypse...

The best thing you can do first is to make a plan, and make your family know it. Where to meet if you get separated, what to grab if the house catches fire, who to call if someone is injured or missing. This is core preparedness, so no one is freaking out wildly, or frozen in fear.

Being in Texas, my family has built plans for tornadoes or floods. Not just my household, but the larger, extended family. Since the riots, our plans have expanded to include unrest and civil chaos.

Communication and coordination is key BEFORE there's an emergency, because it's harder to achieve during an emergency. Plans are also very cheap to construct, so there's no real downside.
