There's often talk of a party being finished after they lose an election (Dems after 2004, GOP after 2008), but really I foresee some new leader emerging and being the new face and brand of the party, and my bet is that they'll hire some existing mainstream celebrity, like Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, or even like Madonna or The Rock (who totally sold out this year, after not endorsing anyone in 2016). They'll want someone with fans, the same way Trump had a huge fanbase when he launched his campaign.

Interesting perspective. Not one I agree with - as you might have guessed from my past post, I generally lean to the side of the Populares - but one I do find understandable, as in general none of the late Roman Republican figures were particularly saintly.
To my understanding, Sulla set the precedents that would accelerate the collapse of the Republic. He was the first general to lead a Roman army directly against Rome: a feat no general before dared, but which many after him did do, as we well know. His dictatorship flouted tradition and the law (the Roman dictatorship was only supposed to be held for a maximum of six months, Sulla's was indefinite and he only stepped down when he was satisfied that his work was done). And his proscriptions helped normalize the mass-killing of political opponents in Rome, not to mention this policy was exploited by the likes of Crassus - a loyal Sullan - to kill random Romans who had done nothing wrong just so they could steal their wealth & property.
No doubt Sulla retired to fanfare, because he had killed or terrorized into submission everyone who could have thought differently. Caesar's deeds may have been more divorced from republican precedent than those of Sulla, but he was only extending and building on the precedents Sulla had set, from marching on Rome to the de-facto-permanent dictatorship. Roman culture was obviously fundamentally different than ours today and war was treated as a great opportunity for self-enrichment (by looting the conquered) and self-advancement (victory brings glory to your name and the loyalty of your surviving legionaries, or dignitas et auctoritas). Some states already give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. No sense in enforcing a stated ID for a federal election.
A national ID card for voting could also be used for other federal services like passports or Medicare.

The republic was already so unstable and its institutions held in so little respect by Caesar's time, thanks in part to Sulla (not wholly, there were others to blame like Marius, but I'd say a good amount of responsibility was Sulla's) that the law was observed more in the breach than in practice - as it had to be for Caesar to have any chance of taking power in the first place. In that sense I find this contrast between Caesar and Sulla to be a much more extreme version of, say, how McConnell upended Senatorial tradition to ram through record amounts of judges only after Reid broke the precedent first - the fault is Reid's and Sulla's IMO, not McConnell's and Caesar's.
Lastly, I don't think it's really fair to compare any Roman figure to the MIC unless they're all compared to the MIC. Roman culture was obviously fundamentally different than ours today and war was treated as a great opportunity for self-enrichment (by looting the conquered) and self-advancement (victory brings glory to your name and the loyalty of your surviving legionaries, or dignitas et auctoritas). Sulla and Marius fell out in the first place because of the hotly disputed command over the Mithridatic War, which promised an enormous amount of loot and glory for whoever could defeat wealthy and powerful Pontus, and Roman expansionism was not unique to the Optimates or Populares. Trump's non-interventionism would not have been considered acceptable by any Roman looking for dignitas et auctoritas, which is to say, pretty much all of them that we know of from Sulla's and Caesar's day (and for a long time before & after).
It's only a Sulla move if he exceeds his Constitutional authority to preserve it. If everything is done within those parameters it's more of a Sun Tzu/Machievelli move.
