Last visit downtown and around the capital it was filled with addicts and homeless.
Be safe.
Is Austin that bad?
You should be fine, have an awareness of your surroundings, go during the day, and in a group.
Downtown 6th street? Be prepared to see panhandlers, addicts using openly, people passed out in doorways and the smell of urine. There was a homelsss camp just south of the capital, not sure if its still there.
At the capital though it was ok.
Austin voted to defund the police department too. I think $150 million.
Well they need to refund the police then.

It sucks .Probably need to park under 6th street or other overpass.
