Particularly if they're mail in you would think people want to spend more time researching who else is on the ballot.

That's not the case here because they were waiting to see how many were needed and just filled them in.

I'm not familiar with how long american ballots are but I've heard stories.

In canada we only elect MPs (house of reps equivalent) so everyone knows going in what party they'll vote for. My province is an exception where we elect our senators but only when there is a vacancy and it's not legally binding, just tradition. Honestly so many idiots out there I think party affiliation should be taken off the ballot.

Depending on the year you can have president, multiple senators (georgia had two this time), representative for your district, then state senators and representatives, local judges, county commissioners and tax collector's, school boards, plus any constitutional ballot measures. It can get pretty long and in florida was two sheets front and back of longer legal pad size paper.
