The problem is these states have an incentive to vote themselves into office. The machines won't ever be secure because there's incentive to make them not secure.
What we need to do is cast an electronic federal vote in parallel with the state vote, as a way to audit the system. That way if there's a discrepancy between the state and the federal, we know there's fraud.
Lastly, we need to get rid of mail in votes. If you're overseas, go to a US embassy and cast your vote from there.
Even better idea: have a public blockchain that when you vote it posts the vote to the blockchain and prints a receipt with the private key on it. You can keep that as a way to check your vote at one time on the public blockchain. Everyone can see and tabulate votes real time on the blockchain, while still maintaining anonymity of the vote with secret ballots. Cannot be tampered with, is fully public and auditable with timestamps and machine serial number/id. You always hold your receipt and can validate your vote at any time.
Edit: Also if we do get a national ID card, you can use the smart chip tech to check in and receive the ability to cast the vote on the machine. The smart chip will contain encryption keys just like the DoD uses smart chips to login to secure computers. Significantly more secure system with existing technologies.

And our code was so fucked that we would normally have to start with a set of 20 and then move on from there. We would never update all of them at once, only after updating a few and in ever increasing waves (10, 100, 200, 500... Etc) would all of them be updated.
The fact that they want everyone to believe this software glitch happened because the voting machines didn't get updated the night before is EXTREMELY fishy. Do not believe that is a valid excuse. Any responsible company would have the machines updated way ahead of time, thoroughly tested, and NOT connected to the internet. Holy shit.

Before being able to vote, you must provide the check in person with your drivers license (I assume a state ID card would work as well for those without drivers licenses), and once the systems says you can vote, you are lead to a machine where you can vote. You do not check in until a machine is open for you, and are queued in line.
You use a voting machine to print out your ballot, that you can then examine. It's fed into a scanner that counts the vote. The voter is the ONLY person that handles the ballot from the time it's printed until the time it's scanned and stored.
You get the best of both worlds, a physical ballot that is basically guaranteed to be filled out correctly, and an instant count.
This is (by far) the best way to do the votes that I have seen yet.
The argument is that the software used to tabulate your vote is compromised. Texas is included in the list of states using the same software and Michigan. Iirc
That's why all the software used in voting machines should be public domain and publicly viewable repository (like GitHub, for example) and the Federal Election Commission becomes responsible for release management and will release the baseline software package so states can add in something like a JSON file that will populate the choices.
That way, we can have a secure system, and we also have total visibility into what the software is doing.
Texaspede here. I was under the impression that's how it worked everywhere. If not that's absurd. There should be a federally standardized process, but administered by the states. Also, we should be using dedicated Voter ID documents independent from your drivers license. Obtaining your voter ID should be as rigorous as obtaining a passport. This is how we ensure election integrity. If you aren't willing to go through the same type of process to verify your identity as a voter as you do to obtain a passport, you don't care enough to vote and determine policy for this country (or you're illegal and shouldn't be voting anyway) it's that simple.

Should print out a receipt with your info and your votes, that way when you go back to check to see if yours was received/cast properly (if your state does this, I suppose) you can compare it to the machine receipt and have evidence if it was changed.

What we do in Texas makes the most sense...
Before being able to vote, you must provide the check in person with your drivers license (I assume a state ID card would work as well for those without drivers licenses), and once the systems says you can vote, you are lead to a machine where you can vote. You do not check in until a machine is open for you, and are queued in line.
You use a voting machine to print out your ballot, that you can then examine. It's fed into a scanner that counts the vote. The voter is the ONLY person that handles the ballot from the time it's printed until the time it's scanned and stored.
You get the best of both worlds, a physical ballot that is basically guaranteed to be filled out correctly, and an instant count.
This is (by far) the best way to do the votes that I have seen yet.
The argument is that the software used to tabulate your vote is compromised. Texas is included in the list of states using the same software and Michigan. Iirc
That's why all the software used in voting machines should be public domain and publicly viewable repository (like GitHub, for example) and the Federal Election Commission becomes responsible for release management and will release the baseline software package so states can add in something like a JSON file that will populate the choices.
That way, we can have a secure system, and we also have total visibility into what the software is doing.
Texaspede here. I was under the impression that's how it worked everywhere. If not that's absurd. There should be a federally standardized process, but administered by the states. Also, we should be using dedicated Voter ID documents independent from your drivers license. Obtaining your voter ID should be as rigorous as obtaining a passport. This is how we ensure election integrity. If you aren't willing to go through the same type of process to verify your identity as a voter as you do to obtain a passport, you don't care enough to vote and determine policy for this country (or you're illegal and shouldn't be voting anyway) it's that simple.
I know the powers that be don't want a fair system like this. They want it rigged. But WE THE PEOPLE MUST DEMAND a better system, or else it's over for us as a constitutional republic. We will be no better than Russia or China.
This is how it was done for me. They provided a print out and scanned a QR like code for the vote. But the print out has your choice written.

I don’t know what the name of the voting machine I used was in one of the Atlanta suburbs- but this is exactly what we’ve been doing the past 2 years when the scanner was added.
Yeah, the only way to minimize fraud is to cut as many humans decisions out of the equation while also having the system randomly audit boxes of votes to ensure that what the scanner saw was what was actually seen.
The more humans that can watch other humans with the system, the fairer it will be because no one will want to cheat if the opposition is right there to smack them when they try.
Should print out a receipt with your info and your votes, that way when you go back to check to see if yours was received/cast properly (if your state does this, I suppose) you can compare it to the machine receipt and have evidence if it was changed.
