I said "Any democrats on my facebook might as well remove me as their friend now." My dad commented.. (he never comments on any of my other posts, he commented on this minutes after posting). He said "If that's how you feel you might as well go ahead and remove me." I replied "I'm not going to remove you but I did hide your posts, I don't understand how you were in the army and people died for our freedoms and you're voting to take them away. You don't have any real knowledge about what's going on and you only listen to the fake news." (He has dish and only watches the main stream news channels.) He replied, "You watch fake news, you're just a bunch of sore losers." That was exactly what that dumbass CNN news anchor said during Trump's conference last night, thus reinforcing how he only watches fake news and listens to their narratives.

He didn't have to reply to my post at all. He could have tried to deescalate the situation but instead he hardened his heart and stuck his chest out. So I blocked him. Not done talking to him, we don't have the greatest relationship anyway. But I am going to take a break for a while from him.

I made the post because I had recently added a handful of girls and different people and I didn't know where they stood. I knew my dad was a democrat a long time ago.

I also had a phone call like a year ago where my dad was drunk and was screaming into the phone at me about his hatred from Donald Trump. Since then I have been with him many times and left politics out of the conversation but today he had to comment on my post.

My dad is stuck on thinking that Democrats are for the poor and needy and Republicans are only for the rich.

Sorry to hear that man it’s tough having friends and family that are hardcore TDS. My dad voted Clinton in 16. He waited 2 hours in line last Tuesday to vote for Trump. Maybe one day your pops will see the light.

That’s what makes you special. You see it when they are blind. Never have regret for that. Never waver. YOU have to live this future! Never apologize for someone else’s blindness. WE make tomorrow better, without congratulations. That’s what we DO! The future is possible because of YOU!

I ignore my Dads posts. He's always been a news hound. We tried to have them over to watch the first debate. Maybe 10-15 min into it they started parroting lies and when challenged seemed to pause, not know why they were saying what they were saying, have no response and get mad. They left not even halfway through.

He recently posted something like 'a close election is a good thing because it means everyone wins' - which is the opposite of the truth here. A landslide means the majority gets what they want; a close election means half of the people do not. That's the post I ignored.

He's basically a lazy idiot that rages out at the smallest things and wasn't a part of our lives until it become convenient for him. He uses friends as resources more than friends.

I just bought a brand new truck last week. Hiss jealousy shone through on one of my sisters posts when he said 'don't forget your roots!' us having grown up in the projects and on welfare. That was a dig at me for daring to live a better life. I do try to include him in family events despite all of this and we even went on a camping trip a few weeks ago. That said, I find myself annoyed with him most of the time. If its a family event he's going to get smashed and talk about dumb shit like 'the hood'. Yes, I grew up there but I didnt let it define me. Im fully aware of how it works.

Sorry to hear that. I hope he'll be able to see what's really happening here one day.

Let your dad know: 88 out of 100 of the wealthiest counties in this country voted Biden, so his theory that Republicans are for the rich is backwards

Democrats are for the rich and the race war is a fake proxy for the class war being instigated by elite Dems

Man, I don’t talk to most of my family anymore. I never really liked anyone and they all have TDS. My mom’s side is dead to me. They are horrible people. Her brother straight up told my dad they should shoot everyone not wearing a mask in the head during covid. Her aunt just called the cemetery this week to get her 90 years old brother exhumed because he didn’t pay his cut of the land when he was alive. My cousin called the cops on two 7 years old kids who were playing outside during the lockdown. These people are just fucked up. You’re not alone... I deleted my Facebook I was officially done with everyone.

And that’s where the pride kicks in as a parent. YOU superseded EVERY expectation. What a great kid! Your parent may be lost, but they Raised YOU. Help guide them. It’s YOUR turn to give back.

I am really sorry bro. I cant imagine how you feel. Do what's best for yourself. If you don't value yourself, no one else will. Do not let anyone guilt you, or try and devalue your feelings that's emotional manipulation.

I don't know you or your family or the situation, but I try to caution every one when it comes to issues with family and politics I'd always suggest trying to smooth things out. Always worth a shot, you only get one family and its important to remember a lot of good people can get testy in times like these.

If this isn't applicable, I'm sorry, and I'm not trying to intrude, but family is always worth the effort, even in crazy, crazy divided times. Sounds like you know all of this, not trying to imply you don't! God Bless either way.

It is your choice, of course. But...I am assuming your dad is somewhere in his 50's or 60's. Hopefully, he has good health. But you never know about such things.

I lost a dear friend of over forty years due to my support of President Trump. He died before any reconciliation was possible. I have some regret that I did not lie and let him think he converted me.

You never know how much time someone has.

oh yeah That's what I was saying that I wont stop talking to him. Hes a bad father and we rarely talk anyway. I always have to initiate the convo. And I still will text and call and visit him. He will probably get a text for the holidays, maybe a call. Not a visit for months from now.

Don't talk politics with family and close friends. No one ever did before 2016, no reason to start now. There's a reason we used to have the saying "never talk politics or religion". My Grandma and I have polar opposite political beliefs and refuse to engage in convos about it. My Grandma is an angel and politics is not getting in between that.

that's bullshit and it's just a big elephant in the room. But I was doing that. I didn't send a message to my dad. I made a public post and he had to put in his 2 cents.

No need to downvote me. Im on your side. I've lost my little brother over this shit. That's the only reason I commented.

2
couranto 2 points ago +3 / -1

That’s why we lose. Libs get to rant to rave and we have to be quiet.

1
maga_gal 1 point ago +1 / -0

I never said anything eluding to that. I said, don't engage with close family members. That goes both ways- i didnt imply one side needs to be quiet more than the other. This shit is ruining families right now, it's not worth it to discuss if people can't remain civilized
