Federal Prison Camps are still not nice places and they don’t have the luxuries that they used to have.

FPC = No fence, inmates must have 10 years or less left on their sentence, you can’t be a sex offender or have detainers (including immigration detainers).

FSL = Is run like a FPC but with a fence, used for some who would be eligible for an FPC but are not because of sex offenses, immigration detainers, etc.

FCI Low = Has a fence, 20 years or less until release date. Violence is still rare, but it’s still a prison. Inmates live in giant open air dorms.

FCI Medium = Any sentence length including lifers can be here. Gangs and violence begin to have major influence, it is a hybrid between a USP & FCI Low. Inmates live in cells instead of open air dorms.

USP = Mostly kingpins and violent offenders go here. Tons of security, comparable to a state prison in terms of security measures.

ADX = The Supermaxes usually designated for those the DOJ says have to go there OR the BOP will put them there if they escape or get violent at USPs.

FMC = Federal Medical Centers are NOT nearly as good as outside hospitals but will house inmates with chronic conditions- even if they don’t need medical care 24/7, of all security levels. Sex offenders are sometimes sent here for safety reasons.

Most of these people in political scandals would go to FPCs or FCI Lows depending on sentence length.
