They must have disabled search to be able to keep the site up with all the new users flooding in. Comments are limited to the first few for the same reason.
Comments being limited is even worse than not having search, and they've been that way for much longer... Most comments in all the large posts are never seen by anyone other than the OP. Makes me feel bad every time I see a long high-effort comment on one of my popular posts, which no one else can ever see.
