Ground has been gradually lost to Communists for the past 70 years solely based on this principle, because conservatives in the west advocate for taking "the high road" even when the wolves are at the door. Then they act surprised when their culture and and country has been assimilated and destroyed.
We aren't at the point where violence is needed, but a constant, strong presence in the streets is. Waiting for a hypothetical civil war to begin to take action is far, far too late.
