Let's assume that what he and others saying about this ISN'T true....what reason would they have to be saying it. Why say something that you know will be almost immediately proven untrue? What is to be gained by telling us this if it ISN'T true?

Just to be clear, im approaching it this way because I want to approach it reasonably and rationally and not just believe it because i REALLY WANT IT TO BE TRUE.
